The development effects of DEG’s portfolio in 2024 were recorded using the DERa and are divided into two pillars: “Impact of DEG customers” and “Transformation supported by DEG”. Pillar I describes customers’ direct development impacts across five dimensions: decent jobs, local income, market and sector development, environmental stewardship, and community effects. Pillar II looks at four ways in which DEG supports its customers’ transformation.
Pillar I: Impact of DEG customers in 2024
83% of companies, financial institutions and infrastructure projects supported by DEG contribute to community development in their local areas. This benefits both residents and the investing companies.
Customers promoted by DEG generated
34 TWh of green electricity for 49 million people.
69% of companies, financial institutions and infrastructure projects supported by DEG work in markets and sectors where investments promoting sustainable development are of above-average importance.
Local income of EUR 185 billion was generated during the last reporting year alone (local salaries, taxes and profits).
Almost three million people are employed in DEG’s portfolio companies.
